Frequently Asked Questions
Buying & Authenticity
Are your watches authentic?
Yes. Every watch sold by Vintage Watch HQ is 100% authentic.
Each watch is carefully inspected before being offered for sale. We assess originality, mechanical condition and overall authenticity, ensuring every piece meets our standards before joining our collection.
We never knowingly sell counterfeit, replica or heavily modified watches.
Are the watches serviced?
Every watch is thoroughly inspected, tested and regulated before sale.
Where a watch has recently undergone a professional service, this will always be clearly stated within the product description.
If a watch has not recently been serviced, it will still have been carefully checked to ensure reliable operation and satisfactory timekeeping before being offered for sale.
Do your watches come with a warranty?
Yes.
We believe buying vintage should come with confidence.
• Professionally serviced watches include a 12-month mechanical warranty.
• Inspected, unserviced watches include a 3-month mechanical warranty.
Our warranty covers the mechanical movement under normal use.
It does not cover accidental damage, water ingress, magnetisation, misuse, normal wear and tear or work carried out by third-party watchmakers.
What condition should I expect?
Every vintage watch has lived a life before reaching us.
Light signs of age, gentle patina and honest wear are often part of what makes vintage watches so appealing.
We photograph every watch honestly and describe any notable imperfections within each listing, allowing you to buy with complete confidence.
Where do you source your watches?
We source watches from trusted private collectors, reputable auction houses and established dealers throughout the UK and internationally.
Every watch is individually selected based on originality, condition, design and mechanical quality.

Caring For Your Vintage Watch
Can I wear my vintage watch every day?
Yes.
Vintage watches were built to be worn and enjoyed.
However, they should be treated with greater care than modern sports watches, particularly regarding shocks and water exposure.
Are vintage watches waterproof?
Unless specifically stated otherwise, no vintage watch should be considered waterproof.
We recommend removing your watch before showering, swimming or exposing it to moisture.
How often should I service my watch?
We recommend servicing your watch every 3–5 years, depending on how frequently it is worn.
Regular servicing helps maintain reliability and protects the longevity of the movement.
What if my watch needs servicing after the warranty expires?
We'll always be happy to help.
We can recommend trusted independent watchmakers or advise you on the best course of action for your particular watch.
How do I wind a manual watch?
Turn the crown clockwise until you feel gentle resistance—typically around 20 turns.
Avoid forcing the crown once fully wound.
To set the time, gently pull the crown to the time-setting position and adjust the hands accordingly.
General Information
What makes a watch vintage?
Generally, a vintage watch is considered to be around 20 years old or older.
These watches often represent a level of craftsmanship, design and character that is rarely found in modern production.
What's the difference between manual, automatic and quartz watches?
Manual – Wound by hand each day.
Automatic – Self-winding through the natural movement of your wrist.
Quartz – Battery-powered and renowned for exceptional accuracy.

We don't categorise our watches by gender.
Many vintage watches wear smaller than modern pieces, making them suitable for a wide variety of wrist sizes and personal styles.
